Maroon 5's bassist Mickey Madden has announced he is taking a leave of absence from the band, two weeks after being arrested on charges of domestic violence.
In a statement, the 41-year-old said: "I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence. During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates."
Madden was arrested last month and released on bail the same day. He has been charged with intimate partner violence, though details of the alleged incident remain unclear. He is due to appear in court on 29 September and could face up to six years in prison if convicted.
The band announced rescheduled tour dates for their previously cancelled 2020 shows and issued a statement saying: "We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously."
Madden, a founding member of Maroon 5, was previously arrested in 2015 on drug charges after allegedly providing cocaine to Ivanka Trump's ex-boyfriend. He agreed to one day of community service in a plea deal.
