Margot Robbie, star of 2023's blockbuster Barbie movie, has continued her doll-inspired fashion streak into the 2024 awards season. Working with stylist Andrew Mukamal, Robbie has been recreating iconic Barbie outfits from decades past on the red carpet, much to the delight of fans.
At the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, Robbie wore a punchy red Balmain gown with a three-dimensional rose embellishment, believed to reference the 1996 Radiant Rose Barbie. The Bardot-neckline take on the classic look featured ruched pleating, echoing the folds of the original doll's dress.
For the Golden Globes, Robbie donned a custom Giorgio Armani Privé pink sequinned gown, instantly recognised as a replica of the 1977 SuperStar Barbie's 50th anniversary look. She accessorised with $3 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a pink tulle boa.
Other notable recreations include the 1964 Black Magic Ensemble Barbie for the Gotham Awards, and the 2015 Pink and Fabulous Barbie for a Beverly Hills photo call, where Robbie wore a polka-dot Valentino minidress in hot pink, white, and yellow. The press tour also featured nods to 1959's Teenage Fashion Model Barbie in a striped Hervé Léger bandage dress and 1973's Quick Curl Barbie in pink gingham.
Robbie's commitment to authenticity has seen her replicate everything from the Barbie convertible (wearing head-to-toe Bottega Veneta) to the smallest accessories, ensuring her press tour looks remain as true to the dolls as possible.
