Margaret Paton celebrated her 100th birthday in fine style with a Western-themed afternoon at Glennie House in Auchinleck. The care home resident enjoyed a rootin’-tootin’ good time as family, friends, and local supporters gathered to mark the milestone.
A Life of Devotion
Born in July 1926, Margaret lived her early life in Hurlford before moving to Bellfield, where she remained in the same house for an incredible 69 years – longer than any other resident. She worked at BMK for 35 years and remains well-known and highly regarded by former colleagues.
Her long and full life is a testament to her devotion to family, including her son Allan and daughter-in-law Margaret, as well as her wider circle of friends. Margaret credits her longevity to her Christian faith, hard work, and staying active both physically and mentally. Until very recently, she was a keen reader and cruciverbalist – someone who loves crosswords.
Western-Themed Celebration
A family spokesperson said: “The support for Margaret locally has been incredible. Her party at Glennie House was supported by Blackstone Clydesdales, Fossilfield Training Centre and LC Balloons, while local farmers supplied hay bales, which transformed the garden. There was music, line dancing and whole lot of fun.”
Family Party and Council Gift
Afterwards, the group enjoyed a family party at the Dumfries Arms in Cumnock, where Councillor William Lennox presented Margaret with a floral gift on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.
