Marc Anthony Denies Claims He Sparked Beckham Wedding Dance Controversy
Singer Marc Anthony has publicly addressed the ongoing Beckham family feud, specifically refuting allegations that he was responsible for a controversial incident during Brooklyn Beckham's wedding to Nicola Peltz. The claims, which have circulated widely, suggested Anthony invited Victoria Beckham to share the first dance with her son Brooklyn instead of his new wife.
The Alleged Wedding Incident
According to accounts from wedding guest DJ Fat Tony, who appeared on This Morning to describe the events, Marc Anthony was performing at the 2022 wedding when he called Brooklyn onto the stage. Instead of inviting Nicola Peltz for the traditional first dance, Anthony allegedly referred to "the most beautiful woman in the room" and summoned Victoria Beckham. DJ Tony stated this left Brooklyn "literally devastated" and caused Nicola to leave the room in tears.
Brooklyn Beckham himself later amplified these claims in an explosive Instagram statement, accusing his mother of "hijacking" his first dance and dancing "very inappropriately" with him. He expressed feeling "humiliated" and claimed his parents had tried to "ruin" his relationship with Peltz.
Anthony's Firm Rebuttal
In his first comments on the matter to The Hollywood Reporter, Marc Anthony described the situation as "extremely unfortunate" but insisted the widely reported version of events is "hardly the truth." While acknowledging his long-standing closeness to the Beckham family—he is godfather to their son Cruz—Anthony declined to elaborate further, stating simply, "I have nothing to say about what happened there."
The singer emphasized the Beckhams are a "wonderful, wonderful family" he has known since before their children were born, subtly distancing himself from the narrative that he played a central role in the familial discord.
Broader Family Tensions and Public Appearances
The wedding dance controversy forms part of a larger, very public estrangement between Brooklyn Beckham and his famous parents. Brooklyn has stated he does not wish to reconcile and feels he is "standing up" for himself for the first time. Meanwhile, Nicola Peltz's father, billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, offered brief commentary, advising the couple to "stay the hell out of the press" while affirming his daughter and son-in-law are "great."
Despite the turmoil, David and Victoria Beckham presented a united front alongside their other three children—Romeo, Cruz, and Harper—at a Paris fashion event shortly after Brooklyn's January statement, marking their first joint public appearance since the feud became headline news.
