Malia Obama turned heads during a casual lunch date in Los Angeles, showcasing her evolving street-style credentials. The 26-year-old former First Daughter was spotted at All Time Diner with a friend, wearing an oversized leather coat that concealed her slender frame.
Underneath the coat, she paired a white collared shirt with an orange and yellow sweatshirt, baggy blue jeans, and black sneakers. She accessorised with a large brown shoulder bag and wore her long, red-tinged hair in soft waves.
Malia, who now goes by the professional name Malia Ann, is making strides in the film industry. She directed a short film titled The Heart in 2023. Her father, former President Barack Obama, revealed on The Pivot podcast that she chose to drop the family surname to avoid leveraging their fame. 'I want them to watch it that first time, and not in any way have that association,' he recalled her saying.
Malia and her sister Sasha live together in Los Angeles after graduating from university. Their mother, Michelle Obama, expressed pride in their close bond, telling People in 2022: 'It feels good to know that the two girls you raised find solace at a kitchen table with one another.'
On her podcast IMO, Michelle Obama reflected on the sisters' growing disinterest in White House traditions, such as the annual turkey pardoning. 'By the time we got to the last turkey pardoning, they were done,' she said. 'They were just like, 'I'm out, I'm not going.''
Malia graduated from Harvard University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in history, while Sasha earned a sociology degree from the University of Southern California in 2023.
