Good Morning Britain descended into chaos within minutes of going live on Tuesday 28 July 2026. Host Kate Garraway deliberately triggered her co-presenter Richard Madeley's biggest pet peeve. The 59-year-old broadcaster was back on air alongside Madeley when, just before handing over to This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, the pair began discussing their most irritating habits.
Madeley admitted he could not stand people munching food beside him, especially at the cinema. Garraway then pulled out a bag of popcorn from the coffee table drawer and watched as Madeley cringed. She giggled: "He's the fun police; he doesn't like people eating next to him." As she tossed another kernel into her mouth, Madeley groaned and marched off the set, prompting Garraway to exclaim: "He's had enough, he's stormed off set!"
After Alison and Dermot's preview of their upcoming programme, Madeley returned to the studio and slumped down next to Garraway, who was still chomping on her popcorn before they broke for adverts.
Bill Oddie's Death Mentioned
The clip comes as Madeley spoke out after the heartbreaking news of Bill Oddie's death. On Monday 27 July 2026, it was announced that the iconic wildlife presenter had died at the age of 85. His representative David Foster confirmed the news in a statement: "It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Bill Oddie, the country's best-loved birder."
"Bill was a multi-talented celebrity - wildlife presenter, broadcaster, comedian, writer, songwriter, musician and conservationist. Yet it was never fame that he valued." Addressing the news on the programme, Madeley spoke about interviewing Oddie: "He was spikey, you really had to get your boxing gloves out when you interviewed him. You couldn't say the wrong thing."
