Mabel Li, who plays Aunt Vidala in the Disney+ series The Testaments, is an Australian actress with a multicultural background. Born in New Zealand to parents from Guangzhou, China, her family later moved to Australia. Li initially hesitated to pursue acting due to a lack of Asian representation on screen, but she went on to graduate from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and made her debut in the murder mystery drama The Tailings.
Li's role in The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, marks one of her biggest to date. The series follows a new generation of young women in Gilead, guided by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). As the show progresses, viewers learn more about Aunt Vidala's background.
Li is friends with Bridgerton star Yerin Ha, with whom she studied at NIDA. The two have interacted on social media for years and were pictured together in a 2018 photoshoot championing women of colour in acting. Li is also friends with Australian actress Sophie Wilde, known for Everything Now and Talk To Me.
