Love Island star Sam Workman has been inundated with support after revealing his hidden struggle in the ITV2 villa. The 25-year-old electrician was among the original cast for the 2026 series but got the boot during Friday night's episode (June 19) along with Namibia Olpherts.
Recoupling Twist Leads to Emotional Exit
His departure came after four new bombshells were told to pinch a boy or girl each from an existing couple. Only once they had made their picks was it disclosed that the Islanders left single as a consequence would be booted out immediately. Sam's elimination hit his villa housemates hard, with many left in tears as he prepared to depart. Despite only ever being in friendship pairings, he consistently defended fellow contestants and even challenged Tommy Murphy over his snogging marathon, which left several girls upset, according to OK!.
Sam's Instagram Statement
Following his departure, Sam turned to Instagram to reveal why he had frequently appeared withdrawn and quiet. In an extensive message, he wrote: "Going on Love Island was a dream of mine, and although I didn't find love, I've made friends for life and memories I'll never forget. Thank you to everyone for the incredible support and love you've shown me throughout my time in the villa. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity."
He then disclosed: "I know there were times when I seemed a little quiet. As you all know I wear hearing aids and can struggle to hear properly in large group settings, especially when lots of people are talking at once, facing away from me and with outside wind. I think because of that, there were moments where I wasn't as involved in conversations as much as I would've liked. I'd love to use this platform to help raise awareness of some of the challenges that people in the hard of hearing and deaf community face every day. And finally, thank you again for all the support. It's meant the world."
Fan Reactions and Support
His message triggered a flood of backing. One supporter wrote: "This is the kind of representation we need more of!" Another responded: "You were amazing! You were my favourite Islander, and I definitely would have picked you in the villa. Watching your conversations with the other Islanders often made me think about deaf awareness. You came across brilliantly throughout the series—authentic, genuine, and you should be so proud of yourself."
Sam's History with Hearing Aids
Sam has relied on hearing aids since he was just four years old. He shared with OK! before joining the villa about his journey with them, explaining "they are really a big part of who I am." Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
