Love Island contestant Dr Alex George has announced he is returning to his job in A&E, just four months after appearing on the reality show. The 27-year-old doctor, who failed to find love on the programme, confirmed the news on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
In his tweet, Dr George said: 'Love Island was the experience of a lifetime, but ever since I left the villa I have genuinely missed working for the NHS. That's why this week, I'm going back to A&E. I trained for years for the opportunity to help people, and I can't wait to get back to doing what I love.'
On Instagram, he told his 1.3 million followers: 'I'll be using my platform to raise awareness around health issues among people. Hopefully I'll be able to give you a bit of insight into what it's like on the front lines of the NHS. I hope you all continue this incredible journey with me. Here we go.'
Dr George had been given eight weeks off from work to star in Love Island. After leaving the villa, he was reportedly in talks for a regular slot on This Morning, where he would have educated audiences on medical topics alongside doctors Hilary Jones and Zoe Williams. A source said at the time: 'Producers were impressed with Alex... They believe it would be great to have a new face whose come from a show like Love Island and can appeal to a younger audience to give his insight on the medical world.'
