Casa Amor bombshell Carlos Borges has revealed why he was stopped from talking about Netflix in the Love Island villa this year. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, the 22-year-old from the New Forest shared the hidden rules that restrict Islanders from discussing certain topics.
Rules on outside topics
Carlos explained that Islanders are not allowed to talk about events happening in the outside world. “You can't really talk about stuff that's going on in the outside,” he said. “Say if you've seen something on the screen and then you want to go say ‘oh, yeah, I remember before I came in, I heard this’, they don't like you talking about that sort of stuff.”
This rule extended to TV shows, including Netflix. Carlos recalled a conversation with Priya Jaswal on the terrace: “I wanted to chat to her about something past that, like more of a genuine conversation. I tried talking about a Netflix show and I was like, ‘what are your top 5 series?’ [but] you can't talk about that sort of stuff.”
Struggles in the villa
Carlos entered the villa as a Casa Amor bombshell in Season 13, aiming to get to know Priya Jaswal. However, he was sent packing after just three days following a recoupling in which Priya chose fellow Casa Amor bombshell Jordon Wilson. Priya later tried to rekindle with original Islander Aidan Murphy, but they remained friends and were dumped from the villa on Friday night.
Carlos noted that the rules made it difficult to have genuine conversations. “I think there's a clip [where the other boys said to me], ‘oh try to talk about something apart from just about how [Priya’s] feeling about the situation.’ It's like, well, boys, that's all I can talk about. What else can I talk about? I can't talk about anything else.”
Misconceptions about the show
He also addressed common misconceptions, including the belief that Islanders are together all the time. “I think a lot of people don't know [that] there's a down day. You can't just chat to girls every day, whenever you want. Obviously, you have times when you're separated and you can't chat and can chat.”
Regarding accusations of scripting, Carlos said: “I think there's a lot of things that people think actually happen that don't happen. [A] lot of people assume Love Island is scripted. It's not scripted. It's very raw and real. From my time in the villa, I was very much able to do whatever I wanted to do. So, I think that's the biggest misconception of the show – that the show's scripted when it's not.”
