Love Island enthusiasts have criticised the 'most pointless' and final recoupling of the series, which saw contestant Ethan forced to exit the villa just a week before the grand finale on ITV2.
The 13th instalment of ITV's dating reality show is drawing to a close, with the journey filled with numerous unexpected twists and turns. Audiences recently saw friends and family of the remaining Islanders enter the villa, offering support and seeking answers from contestants, leading to emotional and flirtatious moments.
Recoupling twist leaves Ethan single
During the episode, Islanders Simba and Kavan were in conversation on the daybeds when Simba exclaimed: "I've got a text!" It read: 'Islanders, tonight there will be a recoupling in which the girls will decide which boy they want to couple up with. Can all Islanders please gather around the Firepit immediately.'
The announcement was met with shrieks and anxious sighs across the Villa. Mica confessed: "I don't know what to say." As the Islanders congregated around the Firepit, the girls prepared to make their decisions while the boys anxiously awaited their fate.
Iain Stirling informed viewers that this would be the season's final recoupling. Mica was the first to make her choice, opting to stay with Samraj, stating that seeing her family had made her 'more obsessed' with him. Angelista chose to stick with Simba, while Julia confessed her nerves as she decided to stay with Lorenzo.
Yasmin predictably chose to stay with Tommy, hinting that she was falling in love, while Jasmine unsurprisingly picked Kavan. Rounding off the recoupling ceremony, Priya was the last girl to choose and recoupled with Aidan. This left Ethan as the sole single Islander, and he promptly received a text message informing him he was consequently being dumped from the island.
Fans slam 'nasty' twist
Fans were quick to voice their thoughts on the latest developments, with some criticising the entire situation. One posted online: "Is this some kind of humiliation ritual for Ethan? Nasty work." Another chimed in: "I hope Ethan gets signed up for all stars, he deserves a better chance than he has had this series."
A third shared: "This is such a pointless recoupling." While another queried: "What is going to happen in the next few episodes... there's no drama anymore."
Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
