Love Island fans have been reacting to the 'diabolical' Casa Amor secret selfie challenge that left one contestant near tears and sparked widespread debate online. The challenge, which aired on Tuesday, June 30, during the 13th series of the ITV dating reality show, saw the Casa Amor girls given a covert mission to take selfies with the boys that best fit certain statements.
Secret Selfie Challenge Unveiled
Olivia received a text in the dressing room instructing the girls: 'Girls, today you will take part in a secret selfie challenge. You must snap a picture with the boy who best fits each statement. You must remain completely undetected.' The girls then determined among themselves which of the lads suited each category: 'the boy who's been the easiest to turn' (Kavan), 'the boy who's enjoying his lads holiday to the fullest' (Simba), and 'the boy who's loving the test' (Lorenzo).
As they embarked on their task, they succeeded in documenting moments that appeared to serve as proof. Charleen and Kavan engaged in flirtatious banter culminating in a passionate kiss, which Martha captured in the background of a selfie. Meanwhile, Nevaeh, Martha, and Charleen sneakily captured an image of Mara and Simba getting intimate just moments before they locked lips. Olivia applied sun cream to Finley's back before taking a selfie of them both snuggled together.
Photos Sent to Main Villa
All these photographs were dispatched in messages to the girls remaining in the main villa. Jasmine received the texts with the first one stating: 'The Casa girls have entered the chat... Update pending.' They hurriedly assembled in the Garden, clustering around the single phone as pictures came through one after another, sending ripples of shock throughout the villa. The lads' behaviour at Casa Amor stood exposed.
Yasmin found herself lost for words and close to tears upon seeing a selfie of Lorenzo. The other girls rallied around her, insisting that growing closer to Tommy was her 'doing the right thing'.
Viewer Reactions
Viewers following from home were swift to voice their opinions and hailed the challenge as among the best the programme has ever featured. One shared on social media: 'Diabolical challenge but I love it.' Another commented: 'Literal highlight of this season.' Someone else responded: 'This is a hella good challenge, definitely should have caught Mara and Simba at it.'
One viewer remarked: 'Actually screaming, can we please do this secret challenge for the next 10 seasons?' However, some were frustrated by the lengthy build-up to the episode's highlights. They expressed: 'All that build up to those photos and the secret challenge and that's all it was? Also no tomorrow night preview? Producers have messed this up. Should have done the postcard.' And one eagle-eyed fan noticed a star's absence throughout, observing: 'At least Lola can quieten down now, Sean was probably in bed all day when that challenge was on.'
Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
