Fans of the Christmas classic Love Actually have been left astonished after discovering a surprising link between the film and tech billionaire Elon Musk. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who played the adorable Sam in the 2003 rom-com, has married actress Talulah Riley – who was previously married to Musk.
Brodie-Sangster, now 34, and Riley, 39, tied the knot at St George's Church in Hertfordshire in 2024. The actor looked dapper in a blue tuxedo while Riley stunned in a white gown. The couple first met on the set of the Disney+ series Pistol, where they played on-screen lovers – Riley as fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and Brodie-Sangster as Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren. They did not begin a relationship until after filming finished.
Riley, who has appeared in films such as Pride and Prejudice and St Trinian's, was married to Musk from 2010 to 2012, remarried him in 2013, and divorced again in 2016. Brodie-Sangster, best known for Love Actually, has since built a diverse career with roles in The Maze Runner series, Game of Thrones, and The Queen's Gambit.
The couple announced their engagement in the summer of 2023 with a photo shared by Brodie-Sangster on Instagram, captioned: 'Happy to announce that Talulah and I are engaged. Love is all around X.' Fans were quick to express their surprise at the connection, with one commenting: 'How did I not know that the kid from Love Actually was married to Elon Musk’s ex????'
Speaking about their first date in a BBC documentary, Riley recalled: 'He said may I put my hand on your knee and I said, OK go on then.' She added that they ended up having breakfast, lunch, and dinner together on that same day.
