Jamie Redknapp has opened up about the difficult conversation he had with his eldest son, Charley, when he told him about his new baby with wife Frida Andersson. The football pundit, 52, admitted that Charley, now 21, initially reacted badly to the news of a younger brother.
Speaking on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Redknapp said: "It didn't go down that well with Charley, I've got to be honest. I went to pick him up at school and tell him Frida was pregnant [and] it went down like a lead balloon." He added that he understood his son's feelings, acknowledging that "his world had been turned upside down" after the breakdown of Redknapp's marriage to Louise Redknapp in 2017.
In contrast, Redknapp's younger son Beau, 16, took the news more easily. The couple's son Raphael was born in November 2021, and Redknapp said both boys have since embraced their role as big brothers. In a birthday tribute to Charley in July, Redknapp praised him as "the best big brother" and a "great role model."
Louise Redknapp, 49, also celebrated Charley's 21st birthday on Instagram, calling him her "partner in crime" and expressing pride in the "charming young man" he has become. She is currently in a relationship with businessman Drew Michael, but has said she is not rushing into marriage again.
