Louise Jameson Reveals Past Tensions with Doctor Who Co-Star Tom Baker
Louise Jameson Opens Up About Doctor Who Co-Star Tensions

Emmerdale star Louise Jameson, known for her role as Mary Goskirk, has opened up about past tensions with her former Doctor Who co-star Tom Baker. The actress, who played Leela alongside Baker's Fourth Doctor from 1977 to 1978, admitted they had their difficulties behind the scenes but have since become close friends.

Emmerdale Storylines and Character Journey

Jameson joined the ITV soap in 2022 as Rhona Goskirk's mother, Mary. Her character made a memorable entrance by revealing to Kim Tate that she is a lesbian, having hidden her sexuality for most of her life. Mary later fell for Faye Helders, who turned out to be a fraudster, and then Suzy Merton, who died in the limo crash. Suzy's partner Vanessa Woodfield was devastated to learn Suzy was truly in love with Mary.

Mary has also supported her family through April Windsor's harrowing storyline involving exploitation by drug dealers Celia Daniels and Ray Walters.

Doctor Who Tensions and Reconciliation

Before Emmerdale, Jameson was best known as Doctor Who companion Leela. She and Tom Baker had a strained relationship during filming, but they later reconciled. After joining Baker in the TARDIS to celebrate his MBE earlier this year, Jameson told Doctor Who Magazine: It is no secret that we had our problems back in the seventies. We've absolutely come full circle, and being invited to this, I feel I'm firmly on the friendship list.

Personal Life and Marriage

Jameson met her husband, artist Martin Bedford, while filming Bergerac in Jersey. They married in 1990 but separated after seven years. She reflected: It got to the stage where had we continued living together we'd have been in real danger of losing that love entirely. She added: I'm an incurable romantic. I love intimate suppers, cards and flowers, all of that.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
