Louis Tomlinson has donated £4,000 to help his former bodyguard, Preston Mahon, who requires life-saving surgery on both legs. The 54-year-old, who worked with One Direction, Boyzone and Westlife over a nearly three-decade career, has been forced to stop working due to his deteriorating health.
Mahon initially had knee surgery, but doctors later discovered a clogged artery in his thigh. After an angioplasty to clear the clot, the artery re-clogged, and he has been told the NHS cannot intervene until his condition becomes dire, potentially requiring a bypass or amputation. Having exhausted his savings on treatment, Mahon now needs surgery costing €35,000 (£30,820), with a GoFundMe campaign launched to raise funds.
Louis Tomlinson, known for his charitable work, contributed £4,000 to the fundraiser. Mahon expressed his gratitude, telling The Sun: 'I'm so appreciative, it means the world to me.' He added: 'All the boys from One Direction mean the world to me, I met up with all the lads again at Liam's funeral exactly a year ago, it was the saddest time ever but a lovely reunion.'
Fans of One Direction have also rallied around Mahon on social media, with one writing: 'We love you Preston.' Another said: 'Louis has donated £4K to the fundraiser for Preston Mahon, who’s worked previously with the band. Preston has lost most of his physical ability and use of his legs.'
This is not the first time Louis has supported a cause close to his heart. He has previously backed organisations such as Niamh's Next Step, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice in South Yorkshire.
