Louis Tomlinson and Zara McDermott at World Cup

Louis Tomlinson and girlfriend Zara McDermott made a rare public appearance last night, enjoying the World Cup semi-final match between England and Argentina at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The couple, seated in the VIP section, wore matching bright red England t-shirts and sipped on cans of beer as they watched England lose 2-1 to Argentina.

Cameras captured Louis, 34, grinning at his girlfriend while chatting with her and another friend. The former One Direction star and the 29-year-old former Love Island contestant began dating in early 2025, a few months after Zara ended her relationship with Sam Thompson in late 2024.

Couple's Relationship and Sleep Struggles

Zara has opened up about her reliance on Louis for sleep, describing her struggles when they are apart. In a recent YouTube video, she said: "I would genuinely say my sleep situation, especially this last couple of weeks, has been beyond horrific. This is the second time in the space of seven nights that I actually have not slept the whole night. When I say not slept the whole night, I mean I haven't had one second of sleep."

She added: "I'm so used to being in bed with my partner as well, we're always together, so when we're not together, and I'm filming somewhere, and I feel a bit discombobulated... and then he's not there, and I sometimes just lose slight bearings of where I am and I don't have him with me."

Zara noted that when together, she sleeps deeply: "When we're together, I'm knocked out, I'm gone, I'm literally gone, the best sleep of my life." She attributed this to a psychological safety factor, saying: "When you're with your partner, you can actually fully relax and let your guard down and actually sleep."

Louis Tomlinson on Being 'So in Love'

Louis has also spoken about his romance with Zara. On The Diary of a CEO podcast, he described himself as a deeply romantic person and said he was "so in love." He explained: "For me, I have to have been living it, it has to be real to me. So, if I wasn't feeling so good, like right now, I wasn't feeling so in love... the record probably would have a slightly different feel to it."

Online Abuse and Support

Since dating Louis, Zara has faced abuse from online trolls. A source told The Sun: "Zara can't win with the trolls. She's either accused of 'following' Louis around the world or is slated for not being a supportive enough girlfriend." The source added: "It's like she's damned if you do, damned if you don't."
