Lorraine Kelly made a special appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as a volunteer, taking on three frontline roles among the 4,000-plus volunteers known as “legends”.
Three Roles on the Day
The Scottish TV star, 66, welcomed the workforce, met Team Scotland netball players before their training session, and later joined the spectator services team to greet the public and help fans find their way around the Scottish Event Campus.
Lorraine said: “There was no way I was missing the chance to get stuck in and be part of this. Spending the morning with the Glasgow 2026 workforce, Team Scotland athletes and spectator services volunteer team showed me just how much goes into making the Commonwealth Games run so smoothly and how ready and switched-on every single volunteer is.”
Training and Partnership
She added: “That doesn’t happen by accident – it’s down to the training Allwyn UK has put behind these legends, and I take my hat off to every one of them. Glasgow knows how to put on a show, and this year’s volunteers are going to make sure the world sees it.” Allwyn UK is the operator of the National Lottery and the games’ official volunteer learning and development partner.
Changes to Lorraine's Show
The outing comes amid huge changes for Lorraine, who has been a regular face on ITV for more than 40 years. In January, her long-running daytime show was slashed to just half an hour per episode and now only airs 30 weeks a year amid massive budget cuts at ITV.
Speaking to Saga magazine, Lorraine said of the cuts: “Really rubbish. A lot of my team got made redundant. It was really hard and harder for them. We were very close-knit, but it’s all about budget. All television shows are in the same boat, we’re not alone.”
Organisers Praise Volunteers
Diane McLeod, director of games services at Glasgow 2026, said: “Our legends are at the heart of everything we do at these games, and it was brilliant to have Lorraine join them for a morning to see their hard work and enthusiasm up close. With more than 4,000 volunteers taking on roles across the city, the scale of what they deliver is enormous – and that’s only possible because of the training and preparation Allwyn UK has helped provide.”
