Liz Kershaw's career is over after more than 30 years at the BBC, following a series of sexist tirades. Her latest target was Andy Burnham's wife, Marie-France van Heel, who appeared outside Downing Street in a designer dress as her husband became prime minister. Kershaw tweeted: 'Apparently this dress is by Victoria Beckham. Bit nasty of her to let Mrs Burnham pay 900 quid for something in Crimplene that doesn’t fit her. Sisterhood eh?'
History of Controversial Comments
Earlier this year, Kershaw criticized Princess Catherine's green dress, tweeting: 'Why the hell is the future queen dressed like this tonight at Windsor Castle? In England? In the 21st century?' In 2020, while still at the BBC, she mocked period poverty initiatives, posting: 'Sorry if this is gross. But period poverty FFS?! My mum had to use old rags which my grandma boiiled-washed and she re-used. How did she ever manage to get a scholarship to grammar school, go to university and become a headteacher without free tampons?'
In 2015, she seemingly compared tributes to Cilla Black to those for paedophile Jimmy Savile, writing: 'When Savile died, I was aghast and disgusted at celebs who knew him, yet trotted out tributes for their own publicity. Here we go again. Seems Free Speech has died. Cilla loved Liverpool so much that she lived in Surrey and Spain. Lazy media using The Cavern Club as a backdrop. It was bulldozed in the 70s! This is just a theme park.'
