Lisa Snowdon has revealed her hopes to “reframe” ageing after seeing the way her body changed due to menopause. The former model, 54, noticed she was losing her hair and had gained weight due to “poor choices” but, rather than retreat, she took matters into her own hands and embraced the “powerful” place she’s in.
A new chapter and a second spring
In a candid new interview, she declared: "I’m 54 now and see this time in my life as a new chapter. It’s important to reframe ageing in a more positive way. It takes time for that readjustment to happen, but now I’m in this powerful place where it’s about, ‘What do I want? What do I need?’
“It’s a powerful time for us to reconnect with ourselves and make big life changes. It’s the second spring."
Hair loss, weight gain and poor food choices
Lifting the lid on how her relationship with her body has also adapted, she continued: “A few years ago, my hair was falling out. I’d look down the drain and think, ‘Oh my God.’ My skin was dry and I could see more wrinkles.
“I put on 3st during menopause and was making poor choices with food, eating a lot of white rice, pasta and bread. I still like a burger and fries or a pizza, but it’s not a regular thing."
From model to TV star
Lisa’s fashion career began when she was scouted by a model agent at the age of 19. She was soon in the pages of Vogue, GQ and Elle, while also landing campaigns for Gucci, Mercedes and Neutrogena. Her personal life also made headlines during this time as she enjoyed a high-profile romance with George Clooney, after meeting him on the set of a TV advert in Spain - they dated for around five years before going their separate ways in 2005.
Turning her attention to the small screen in recent years, she’s competed in Celebrity MasterChef and I’m A Celeb, fronted Britain’s Next Top Model, Through The Keyhole and briefly stepped in on Lorraine. However, speaking to Prima Magazine, she explained that her work was impacted by anxiety during the height of her menopause symptoms. She shared that she lost herself when her confidence plummeted, leading to panic attacks, and said she ended up turning down jobs when things worsened.
Future TV hopes
Discussing her hopes for where her career could take her next, she confessed that she would have loved to take on Strictly hosting duties, having finished the 2008 series as a finalist. "I would love another big TV presenting gig. Taking part in Strictly was such fun, and I would have jumped at the chance to be a new presenter, but that didn’t come up for me," she added.
“I’d like to do a show offering midlife makeovers for everyone – it’s not just women that come to a crossroads in their life, men do, too. Something that speaks to my soul, that helps people not just dress in a different way but also live in a different way."
