Lionel Richie's ex-wife, Brenda Harvey, has provided an update on the legendary singer's health after he was rushed to hospital during a concert at the Grand Casino in Minnesota last week. The 77-year-old 'All Night Long' performer experienced dizziness on stage and was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital as a precaution.
Ex-Wife's Reassurance
Harvey, who was married to Richie for 18 years before their 1993 divorce, took to X to reassure fans: 'Thanking everyone for their concern! Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage.' The couple shares daughter Nicole Richie.
Tour Postponement
The United Center in Chicago released a statement on Richie's behalf, announcing the postponement of two shows: Friday, June 26 in Chicago, Illinois, and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, Ohio. The statement read: 'Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows... He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.'
The Minnesota performance was the first night of the 'Sing A Song All Night Long' tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. Saxophonist Dino Soldo told the Minnesota Star Tribune: 'Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue.'
Concern from Family and Friends
A source told the Daily Mail that Richie's inner circle is worried: 'Family, friends, and even his bandmates are definitely concerned about Lionel's health, but nobody is about to tell him to slow down. They all want him better and to do what he loves to do.' The insider added that Richie is more upset about disappointing fans than his own health: 'Right now, Lionel is actually more upset that fans didn't get the full show they paid for than he is about himself and his health. That's where his head is. He hates disappointing people and feels terrible that the concert couldn't continue as planned.'
The tour is scheduled to visit 26 cities throughout the summer. Richie's team has not announced any further postponements beyond the two shows.
