Folk singer Linda Perhacs has been declared missing by her former manager and friends, who have launched a public plea on social media in a bid to find her.
Public Appeal and Statement
Laurel Stearns, Julia Holter and Mark McNeill released a joint statement on Instagram, claiming the psychedelic folk star was discharged from a residential care facility eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian. The statement read: "Linda Perhacs our dear friend and legendary singer-songwriter was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian. Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered."
They provided the email address (lstearns@primarywave.com) of Stearns, Perhacs' former manager and friend, for anybody who has reliable information.
Background and Health Concerns
Rolling Stone reported that Perhacs had been living at the care facility for several years and had been struggling with dementia. Writer Jessica Hundley told the publication: "We have called elder care and filed several police reports and have now retained a private investigator to help in finding her," adding: "The intention is not to intrude upon her privacy but simply to ensure that she is safe and to re-establish communication with someone whose artistic contributions continue to resonate across generations."
According to Pitchfork, Perhacs was last seen at an assisted living facility in San Fernando Valley, California. Stearns told the outlet: "The most important thing is to make sure that she’s safe and she’s comfortable."
Musical Legacy
Perhacs achieved cult-level fame for her debut album Parallelograms (1970) decades after its release. Her song If You Were My Man featured on the soundtrack for Daft Punk's film, Daft Punk's Electroma (2006). She released The Soul of All Natural Things, her sophomore album, in 2014, 44 years after her debut, followed by I'm a Harmony in 2017.
