Lily Allen Reveals Open Marriage Details in New Album

Lily Allen has released her first album in seven years, West End Girl, on Friday, October 24, detailing the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour. The 40-year-old singer confirmed their split in February 2025 after marrying in 2020.

In the song 'Madeline', Allen references a woman named Madeline, singing: 'We had an arrangement / Be discrete and don't be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But you're not a stranger, Madeline.' The lyrics suggest their open marriage went awry.

On the track 'Tennis', she sings: 'I can't get my head round how you've been playing tennis / If it was just sex, I wouldn't be jealous / You won't play with me and who's Madeline?'

In 'Pussy Palace', Allen describes discovering letters from other women in their shared apartment, singing: 'I found a shoebox full of handwritten letters / From brokenhearted women wishing you could have been better.'

Other tracks, including 'Ruminating', detail her emotional struggles post-breakup, while the title track 'West End Girl' touches on their move to New York and the purchase of a Brooklyn brownstone.
