Rapper Offset is recovering in hospital after being shot outside a Florida casino, a spokesperson confirmed. The incident occurred following a fight at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, north of Miami, police said. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Two people were detained after the shooting. Rapper Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested for disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid licence, according to the Seminole Police Department. He was not charged with any weapons offences. His lawyer, Dawn M. Florio, said he paid bond and was released on Tuesday afternoon.
The second person detained has not been charged, and police are working to identify others involved. The victim of the shooting has not been named by authorities.
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame as a member of the hip-hop trio Migos. The group achieved global success with hits including ‘Bad and Boujee’ and ‘Versace’. Migos disbanded after the 2022 killing of Offset's cousin Takeoff, who was shot and killed outside a Houston bowling alley.
Offset has pursued a solo career, releasing albums including ‘Set It Off’ and ‘Kiari’. He secretly married Cardi B in 2017, and the couple have three children. In 2024, Cardi B filed for divorce.
