Lil Nas X has been arrested and briefly hospitalised following an altercation with police in Los Angeles in the early hours of Thursday morning. The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was found walking on Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighbourhood wearing only underwear and cowboy boots shortly before 6am, according to police spokesperson Charles Miller.
Video footage obtained by TMZ appears to show the artist claiming he was going to a party. He was later booked on suspicion of misdemeanour battery after officers said he charged at them. Police took him to hospital first due to suspected drug overdose, but he was released and taken to jail after a few hours. He has since been booked on suspicion of obstructing an officer and is being held at Valley jail in Van Nuys.
Lil Nas X gained fame with his record-breaking hit Old Town Road, which topped the charts for 19 weeks. He has also enjoyed success with songs such as Industry Baby and Montero (Call Me By Your Name). He is set to release his album Dreamboy later this year, having returned to social media recently with posts featuring snippets of new music and changing his Instagram name to Queen Madeleine.
In April, he was hospitalised after experiencing sudden facial paralysis, saying in a video that he lost control of half his face. Representatives for the rapper have been contacted for comment.
