Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy has shared a video of their final moments together ahead of the first anniversary of the One Direction star's death. The singer died aged 31 in Buenos Aires on October 16 last year after falling from a hotel balcony.
In a TikTok post marking the anniversary, Cassidy uploaded a light-hearted video taken during their last day together, showing the pair laughing as Payne tried to lift her into the air before collapsing into giggles. 'This video was taken during the last hour and last day Liam and I shared in this lifetime,' she wrote. 'I am forever grateful for the beautiful moments we shared. I will miss you for the rest of my life Liam.'
The 26-year-old also shared a black-and-white photo of the couple cuddled up in bed, followed by another picture of them embracing on a snowy getaway. She wrote: 'Today marks a full year without you here. I will forever hate goodbyes. I miss you Liam.'
Payne's family also posted moving tributes. His sister Ruth shared a childhood photo of the star dressed as a pirate, writing: '1year, 12months, 52weeks, 365days... whichever way I say it, it still means the most heartbreaking truth that you're not here any more.' She added that grief had left her 'paralysed' and revealed she has a 'reoccurring nightmare' reliving his final minutes in the hotel room. Their sister Nicola described the death as 'a pain that will never heal,' recalling the moment she learned the news while watching a film with her daughter.
Payne's ex-partner Cheryl, who shares eight-year-old son Bear with the late singer, has largely stayed out of the public eye since his death. The night before the anniversary, she made only her second public appearance in a year, attending Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts' 40th birthday celebrations. Earlier this month, she supported Roberts at the gala night of Hadestown in London.
One Direction star Payne died of multiple traumatic injuries, the opening of the UK inquest into his death heard. The hearing, which Buckinghamshire Coroner's Court said was held on December 17, was told it may take 'some time' to establish how Payne died. The inquest into Payne's death in Argentina, which had previously heard toxicology reports, was adjourned.
