Liam Gallagher angers Liverpool with Beatles 'back on the map' claim

Liam Gallagher has provoked an entire city of football fans with a new social media post in which he claimed Oasis put the Beatles “back on the map”. The 54-year-old Oasis rocker, known for his active presence on X, was defending his club Manchester City after the Premier League found the club guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of its financial rules. The club is now appealing the verdict.

War of words with Liverpool fans

Gallagher’s recent social media output has targeted rival Liverpool FC fans in particular. “All these Scousers giving me and my band s**t, OASIS have done more for the city of Liverpool than they will ever do,” he wrote, before adding: “OASIS put the BEATLES back on the map which they no doubt directly profit from UNGRATEFUL little SODS [sic.].” He signed off with “MCFC” and his usual “LG x”.

Swift and mocking replies

The comebacks were swift. Phil Gwilliam tweeted: “TBF Liam, if it wasn’t for the Beatles you’d be working in Home Bargains…” Another fan added: “Without the Beatles, your band wouldn’t even exist mate.” Paul argued: “Claiming you put The Beatles back on the map is some serious reaching. They never fell off it.”

Gareth Roberts wrote: “Time to have a lie down. Also – The Real People would like a word,” referring to the English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1986, who helped Oasis record the demo that landed them their record deal. @Boss_Tha warned: “Just for the record the Spice Girls cracked America harder than Oasis ever did. Let that sink in before you start putting yourselves in the same f**king sentence as The Beatles.”

Others see the funny side

Some saw the funny side of Gallagher’s penchant for stirring up drama online. Tooker Kurlson quipped: “Glad you added the x. Wouldn’t want Liverpool to take this the wrong way,” while Kevin Sampson posted: “Some very seeeeeerious replies to this. People do realise that Liam’s having a grin here, don’t dee [sic.]?”
