Laura Hamilton Left Disappointed as Guest Walks Out

Guest Rejects First Property Immediately

Laura Hamilton, host of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, found herself apologising after a challenging property hunt with a 'fussy' guest. In a repeat episode broadcast on Friday, June 26, Hamilton greeted Paul, who departed the first property within minutes of arrival. Paul and his best friend Tina were searching for a holiday residence in Benalmadena, Spain, aiming to find a home that suited both Paul and his husband Shaun, who remained in the UK during filming.

Upon viewing the initial property, Paul stated: "It's absolutely not for me, and if it's not for me, it's most definitely not for Shaun." A surprised Hamilton confessed, "I'm surprised," as Paul explained his immediate dismissal. "You want to get out of here as quickly as you can," Hamilton remarked, to which Paul replied: "Definitely."

Hamilton Struggles to Impress

Reflecting on the swift exit, Hamilton told the camera: "I don't think I've ever been in and out of a property as quickly as that. But if Paul doesn't like it, I'd rather draw a line under it and move on because I'm pretty sure the next four properties are going to have a better reaction than this one." However, her expectations were not met, and she struggled to win over Paul and Tina with subsequent properties.

At one point, Hamilton told Paul: "You sometimes make me a bit nervous, whether you're actually wanting to see any more of it," and she even labelled him "fussy". As the search concluded, Hamilton apologised for failing to find their dream holiday home within their £250,000 budget.

Budget Constraints Lead to Disappointment

Hamilton addressed Paul: "When I first met you Paul, you had a clear idea of what you wanted and what you didn't want. It has been really tricky obviously trying to find something that stole your heart." After hearing Paul's reasons for rejecting all options, she added: "You have got a good budget but what you are looking for, the entry level for it is £300,000, that's what these properties start at. Hence everything we've looked at has had to push into your wiggle room. If you're wanting more modern, sleek, all of those things that I haven't been able to show you, I hate to say it, but you're going to have to find another £50,000 to £80,000 to put in the budget."

Paul admitted he could not increase the budget and would have to consider his "no, no" options, including apartments. Hamilton concluded: "I am so sorry that we weren't able to find something that got you excited and made you feel it was right for you." She added to the camera: "I'm disappointed I wasn't able to find something for Paul and his partner Shaun on his search. But they do now have a clear idea of what it is they want and I wish them all the best with their continued search."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
