Kylie Minogue has spoken candidly about her late ex-boyfriend Michael Hutchence in a new Netflix documentary, admitting she became emotional discussing their relationship. The three-part series, directed by BAFTA winner Michael Harte, sees the pop icon sift through personal archives in Paris, revealing never-before-seen footage and photographs.
In the documentary, Minogue reflects on her two-year romance with the INXS frontman, who died by suicide in 1997. 'That was the first time I cried on camera in the interviews,' she told HELLO! magazine. 'I knew it was gonna happen and here it comes. When I really think about him and talk about him, I can often just feel his presence.'
The series also features former Neighbours co-star and ex-boyfriend Jason Donovan, who appears visibly upset as he discusses his past relationship with Minogue and his feelings towards Hutchence. Minogue described Donovan's candid contributions as 'quintessential Jason Donovan' and said she appreciated his honesty.
Minogue, who has sold over 80 million records worldwide, admitted the documentary process was 'deep' and 'a lot of work', but ultimately a 'trust fall worth taking'. The series spans her career from Neighbours to global pop stardom, including her ongoing battle with cancer, which she says she is still 'navigating' 20 years on.
