Cher Lloyd has revealed that music executives attempted to pressure her into a fake romantic relationship with a fellow celebrity to boost her public profile. The 26-year-old singer, who rose to fame on The X Factor a decade ago, said the suggestion was made after she finished fourth in the seventh series of the ITV talent show and signed with Simon Cowell's Syco label.
Speaking to The Sun, Lloyd explained that the proposal felt inappropriate and against her nature. 'They gave me a few suggestions but it was just a crazy thing to ask,' she said. 'Sadly it still happens. That’s still happening in this day and age — that it’s still OK to try to make a young girl do something like that to boost a career.' She added, 'I am never going to be that girl, I was never going to be that girl.'
The singer, who has been married to hairdresser Craig Monk since November 2013 and gave birth to their daughter in May 2018, emphasised her focus on authenticity. 'I write music, I release music and I don’t have the hidden agendas,' she stated.
Lloyd recently released her new single 'Lost' last Friday, marking her first new music in six years since her 2014 album Sorry I'm Late. Her long-awaited third album is reportedly titled M.I.A., though no release date has been confirmed.
