Sydney Sweeney has defended the 60th birthday party she threw for her mother after facing online backlash over photos showing guests wearing items associated with political symbols. The 'Euphoria' star posted images from the hoedown-themed party on Instagram on August 27, which included a man in a 'Blue Lives Matter' T-shirt and guests wearing hats reading 'Make Sixty Great Again', reminiscent of pro-Trump merchandise.
Critics accused Sweeney of endorsing controversial political views, but she responded on Twitter, calling the reaction 'wild' and insisting the party was an innocent celebration. 'An innocent celebration for my mum's milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,' she wrote. 'Please stop making assumptions.'
Despite her plea, criticism continued, with some users questioning how she could smile alongside people wearing such items. Others defended her, arguing she should not be held accountable for guests' choices. The 24-year-old actor, nominated for two Emmys for 'Euphoria' and 'The White Lotus', is set to star in upcoming projects including 'Madame Web'.
