Kristin Davis has spoken out about Kim Cattrall's cameo in the second season of And Just Like That…, expressing hope that fans won't be disappointed by the long-anticipated return of Samantha Jones. The 58-year-old actress, who plays Charlotte York, told Australia's TODAY program that the cast had intended to keep the appearance a surprise.
“We didn’t really want the information out,” Davis said. “We wanted it to be a surprise.” She added that the cameo was meant to be “a lovely thing for the fans” because “we know how much Samantha means to them.” However, after the news leaked, Davis worried that the hype might lead to letdowns: “I hope now that it won’t be disappointing after the amount of drama that has been about it.”
According to Variety, Cattrall will appear in only one scene in the season two finale, filmed separately from the main cast. The scene involves a phone conversation between Samantha, who moved to London, and Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw. Cattrall did not see or speak to Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King during filming.
The cameo follows a public falling out between Parker and Cattrall, which emerged after Cattrall declined to reprise her role in a planned third Sex and the City film. In season one of And Just Like That…, Carrie and Samantha were estranged, but arranged to reconcile after the death of Carrie's husband, Mr. Big.
Parker described the return of former cast members as “fun and exciting,” telling MailOnline: “We've been really thoughtful about the ways in which we’ve approached characters that hadn’t been around… It’s been a lot of joy.” Season two also features John Corbett reprising his role as Aidan Shaw for a multi-episode arc.
