Jimmy Kimmel has criticised former reality TV star Spencer Pratt's campaign to become mayor of Los Angeles, comparing it to Donald Trump's rise to the presidency. On his late-night show, Kimmel said Pratt, best known as 'the screaming jerk on reality shows', is polling at 22% despite lacking political experience.
Kimmel argued that Pratt does not genuinely want to be mayor, but rather 'wants to be a star again'. He drew parallels with Trump, claiming the former president only ran for office because his TV show was about to be cancelled. 'The difference between Donald Trump and this guy is Donald Trump actually had a job before he was on a reality show,' Kimmel said.
The host warned that Pratt's campaign is a distraction, saying 'mayor should not be your first job'. He urged voters to support incumbent Karen Bass or find a candidate who is not 'wasting our time and money to get back on television'.
Kimmel also mocked Trump's cabinet meeting where officials praised him, joking that even if you dislike Bill Clinton, 'at least when his staff blew him, he didn't make us watch'. He criticised Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for cancelling troop deployments after Trump's angry phone call, calling him a 'bigger screwup than Eric'.
Earlier in the week, Kimmel clashed with Health Secretary RFK Jr., who shared a parody post claiming late-night comedy was at its 'nader'. Kimmel corrected him: 'It's 'nadir', dummy, now get back to spreading polio.'
