Nicole Kidman has revealed the full extent of her pregnancy losses during her marriage to Tom Cruise, saying she suffered an ectopic pregnancy at the start of their relationship and a miscarriage at the end. The actress, now 40, spoke to US Marie Claire magazine to correct earlier reports that she had only one miscarriage.
She explained that shortly after marrying Cruise in December 1990, she had an ectopic pregnancy, where the embryo develops in a fallopian tube rather than the womb. 'It was incredibly traumatic for me,' she said. The couple later adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, before the marriage ended.
Kidman also clarified that she did not have a miscarriage at age 23, as previously reported. Instead, she suffered a miscarriage around the time Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001. 'It was wrongly reported,' she told the magazine.
The actress said she still does not know why Cruise abruptly ended their marriage. She now hopes to have a baby with her second husband, country musician Keith Urban, but adds: 'What will be will be. It's in God's hands.'
Kidman also discussed Urban's stint in rehab for alcohol abuse early in their marriage, calling it a shadow but insisting they are determined to survive. 'He's the most important person in my life,' she said.
