Former popstar Kerry Katona has joined Alison Spittle as co-host of the Wheel of Misfortune podcast on BBC Sounds. Throughout their first series, Katona has revealed a number of intimate anecdotes from her life.
Katona spoke about her body image issues, saying the magazines of the 2000s affected her view. She recalled locking herself in the bathroom when she noticed her first stretch mark during pregnancy, and revealed a botched secret tummy tuck that left her with two belly buttons.
She also recounted a bizarre childhood experience at Chester Zoo. With her mother's permission, she urinated near a lion's cage, and the lion urinated on her in response.
Katona discussed her difficult childhood, noting that her mother's mental health issues led to her being placed in care at 13. She described how her mother introduced her to drugs at age 14, sharing a bag of white powder with her. Despite this, Katona said she is thankful for her upbringing as it taught her resilience.
On parenting, Katona, who has five children to three different fathers, joked that she has to Google their birthdays and that Father's Day at her house is a nightmare. She noted that her parenting style relaxed with each child, from designer clothes to supermarket brands.
