Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher Backs Co-Star James Hooton for Strictly Come Dancing
Kelvin Fletcher Supports Emmerdale Co-Star for Strictly

Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has suggested one of his ITV co-stars should follow in his footsteps and take on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor. Kelvin won the 17th series of Strictly Come Dancing in December 2019 alongside his professional dance partner, Oti Mabuse.

As fans of the BBC series may recall, he was not part of the initial celebrity line-up for the 2019 series. He joined the cast as a last-minute replacement after reality TV star Jamie Laing was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a foot injury sustained during the launch show. In the live final, the pair beat fellow finalists Karim Zeroual and Emma Barton to lift the Glitterball Trophy. It marked the first win for professional dancer Oti, who left the show in 2022.

With his Strictly experience in tow, Kelvin took to Instagram and suggested one of his former ITV co-stars takes on the ballroom after showing off their moves in the Dales. In recent episodes, Sam Dingle went undercover with Ross Barton as he hoped to improve his dancing skills ready to impress Lydia Dingle and save her from dancing with Bob Hope.

With him desperate to keep it a secret from Lydia, Sam told a few lies to keep the surprise, but sadly Kim Tate jumped to conclusions. Due to her close friendship with Lydia she wasted no time in expressing her worries that Sam was having an affair with Laurel Thomas after spotting him walking out of her house while telling Kim that he was in town. After Lydia tearfully accused him in the Woolpack pub, the truth came out and Sam was left mortified in thinking that Lydia believed he would have an affair.

Kim sought to bring the pair back together after seeing how hurt they were, and she worked with Bob to set up a heartwarming surprise. As Lydia walked into Home Farm, she was greeted by music and lights before Sam walked down the stairs to greet her, dressed up in his smart suit. The pair danced together under the lights agreeing not to jump to conclusions again as both Kim and Bob looked on with pride after their plan was successful.

As Emmerdale posted a picture of the happy couple on their makeshift dancefloor, Kelvin quipped: "Get him on Strictly!" in support of James Hooton's dancing moves. It's been some time since Kelvin was last in the Dales after bidding farewell to the ITV soap back in 2016. He played the role of Andy Sugden for 20 years and was the adoptive son of Jack and Sarah Sugden making him Robert and Victoria's brother.

Years later, Andy made a pact with Ross Barton that he would kill Pete if Ross did the same to Robert. This was due to Robert accidentally killing Katie when he pushed her through some rotting floorboards when she learned of his affair with Aaron Dingle. However, Andy had to bid farewell to the Dales when Chrissie framed him for the accidental shooting of her father Lawrence which the real shooter was Chrissie's son Lachlan. He fled on the day of his trial with the help of Robert who gave him spare clothes and a fake passport, putting an end to their two decades old feud.

While he hasn't been seen in the village since, Andy does have his daughter Sarah Sugden whom he shares with Debbie Dingle, who is still in Emmerdale. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
