Model and television personality Kelly Brook has publicly revealed the intimate details behind her split from actor Jason Statham, ending their seven-year relationship that once included an engagement.
The End of a Hollywood Romance
During an appearance on the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast, the 45-year-old explained that she ultimately fell out of love with the action star after feeling increasingly neglected as his film career began to overshadow her own.
Brook, who is set to enter the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! jungle this Sunday, began dating Statham in 1997 when he was 58 and she was just 19. The couple became engaged before their eventual breakup in 2004.
The former model described how she had previously been a people pleaser who consistently put others before herself. I have been in the past such a people pleaser and wanting to be friends with everyone and wanting to be there for everyone and not putting myself first, she confessed.
Career Sacrifices and Growing Apart
Brook detailed how she actively put her own promising career on hold to support Statham's ambitions. She recalled having a really good job at MTV hosting a daily show when she made the pivotal decision to quit and move with him to Los Angeles to pursue his acting opportunities.
I quit my job and we went and I was there as this support network for him and watched his career flourish, whereas mine floundered a bit because I didn't have the same opportunities, Brook explained. She described the exhausting process of flying back and forth between the UK and LA, which became both taxing and expensive.
As Statham's career skyrocketed, transforming him into one of Hollywood's biggest action stars, Brook felt the dynamic between them shift dramatically. I just felt so neglected in that dynamic and to the point where I actually fell out of love with him in the end because he hadn't showed up for me like I'd showed up for him, she revealed.
The Final Breakup and Aftermath
When Brook finally ended the relationship, she recalled Statham's confusion about her timing. Why are you leaving now? Look I'm a movie star and I'm a millionaire, why now? he reportedly asked.
Brook responded that he hadn't been there for her during her personal growth. You don't know the woman, she told him, explaining that while the decision was difficult, it was the best decision she could have made for herself.
This isn't the first time Brook has spoken candidly about her famous ex. In 2019, she expressed frustration when Statham was mentioned on her Heart FM Breakfast Show, declaring he'd been skint when they were together. In 2014, she referred to him as a pig and claimed he had contacted her during a brief separation from his current partner.
Statham has since moved on with Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whom he began dating in 2010. The couple are now engaged and share two children: Jack, eight, and Isabella, three.
Meanwhile, Brook found lasting love with Jeremy Parisi, whom she married in 2014 after meeting him that same year.
