Keith Urban has sparked speculation after changing the lyrics to his song 'The Fighter' during a recent live performance, days before his wife Nicole Kidman filed for divorce. The country singer, 57, performed the track on his High and Alive World Tour, substituting the original line 'baby I'll be the fighter' with 'Maggie I'll be your guitar player', referencing his utility player Maggie Baugh.
Baugh shared a clip of the moment on Instagram over the weekend, captioning it with eye-covering and exploding-head emojis and asking 'Did he just say that?' The video has gained attention following Kidman's divorce filing on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences.
Urban had previously described the 2016 hit as a vow to protect his wife, telling Billboard in 2017 that it was inspired by a conversation with Kidman about holding her tighter during tough times. The song originally featured Carrie Underwood.
According to TMZ, the couple has been living apart since the beginning of summer, with Urban moving out of their Nashville family home. A source claimed Kidman did not want the separation and tried to preserve the marriage, while Urban is said to be holding the family together.
Kidman and Urban married in 2006 and have two daughters together, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Kidman also has two adopted children from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
