Kaye Adams Opens Up About Stroke Fear After Pilates Class

Loose Women presenter Kaye Adams has described a health scare she experienced after attending a Pilates class, which left her frightened she was having a stroke. The 62-year-old revealed on her podcast 'How to be 60' that while at a reformer Pilates session, she suddenly felt dizzy and lost her balance.

Adams said the sensation was 'horrible' and made her fear the worst. 'I got off the reformer and my goodness the world began to spin. Like a Tom and Jerry cartoon when there's birds going around the head. I thought, 'Oh my God I'm having a stroke',' she explained. She added that the feeling left her 'really scared' and unable to regain her balance.

After checking her symptoms, Adams learned she had experienced vertigo, caused by crystals in the ear becoming dislodged. The NHS describes vertigo as a sensation of movement when you are not moving, often linked to inner ear problems. Treatment can involve gentle movements and medication.

Adams noted the irony of the incident, as she had previously been sceptical of a friend who suffered from vertigo last year. 'Funnily a friend of mine had told me last year that she had it and I remember at the time thinking that's a load of nonsense! And then when it happened I was like 'Oh I'm going to call her, because she knows how I feel',' she said.

This is the second health scare for Adams in recent years. In January 2024, she feared she had a tumour after experiencing hearing loss in her right ear. However, an audiogram revealed the cause was a large build-up of ear wax, which was removed. The NHS advises using medical-grade olive or almond oil to soften wax at home.
