Katy Perry's past comments about her marriage to Russell Brand have resurfaced following Brand's conviction for rape and sexual assault on Thursday. The pop star previously described the relationship as a "tornado" and made remarks that appeared to criticise her former husband.
Guilty verdict and sentencing
Brand was found guilty of rape and sexual assault and is due to be sentenced on Monday, facing a lengthy prison term. He is currently married to author and illustrator Laura Gallacher, 39, whom he wed in 2017.
Before that, Brand and Perry were married in 2010, but divorced after just 14 months in 2012.
Perry's past comments
Perry has rarely discussed her marriage to Brand, but in one interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she did not name him directly but said she was "no longer attracted to narcissists."
She said: "Anyone that is constantly changing the goalpost or pulling the rug out from you emotionally, not it. Anyone that says that they know you better than you know yourself. Someone that just won't help."
In 2013, Perry also spoke about her marriage to Brand, recalling "controlling" and "hurtful" behaviour. She told Vogue: "He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
Current relationship
Perry is now in a relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
