Katy Perry Reveals Secret Behind Russell Brand Split: 'I Kept It Locked in My Safe'

Katy Perry has spoken out about the breakdown of her marriage to Russell Brand, revealing she was so devastated she could not get out of bed for two weeks. In resurfaced interviews following serious allegations against Brand, the singer said the divorce 'knocked her' and left her feeling 'hurt'.

Perry, 38, described Brand as controlling during their 14-month whirlwind marriage. She told Vogue in 2013 that she felt 'a lot of responsibility for it ending' but later discovered 'the real truth', which she said she keeps 'locked in my safe for a rainy day'. The star did not disclose the secret, but suggested it proved the split was not her fault.

The singer revealed that Brand filed for divorce via text message on 31 December 2011, just as she was about to perform. In her documentary Katy Perry: Part Of Me, she is seen hyperventilating and practising smiling in a mirror before heading on stage. 'He texted me saying he was divorcing me,' she said.

Perry has remained silent on the recent allegations against Brand, which include rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse. Brand has vehemently denied the claims, describing them as a 'coordinated attack' and insisting all relationships were consensual.

Brand, now married to Laura Gallacher, has since reflected on his marriage to Perry, calling it 'a bit chaotic' and 'disconnected'. Perry has moved on and now has a daughter, Daisy Dove, with actor Orlando Bloom.
