Popstar Katy Perry has issued a stark warning to her ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom, declaring she is "allowed to be angry" as she channels years of suppressed emotion into her forthcoming album. The 41-year-old singer, known for hits like Roar, revealed in a candid interview that she has finally given herself permission to express fury over personal matters, including the end of their nine-year relationship.
Katy Perry Opens Up About Pent-Up Anger
Perry and Bloom, who share five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, ended their on-off relationship in 2025 after nearly a decade together. Sources have indicated that the split was a "long time coming," with conflicting hectic work schedules cited as the primary source of friction. While the former couple has largely kept the details of their separation private, Perry is now breaking her silence through her music.
In a recent interview, Perry confessed: "I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things that I should be f***ing angry about. I have every f***ing right to be angry about it but what I have done is I have pushed it down, I have taken the high road, I have wished them well but I should be f***ing angry. I am allowed to be angry for a f***ing moment and I am gonna channel that anger!"
New Single 'Watch It Burn' Drops Friday
Perry's upcoming single, titled Watch It Burn, is set for release this Friday. Speaking about the track on the podcast Unfamous, she explained the creative process behind the song. "The first part is being super intentional with writing the song and knowing every line is going to be... Sometimes it will have an effect. And what you hope is not that people go, 'Oh this is about Katy and her life' but you hope that gets broader, and bigger and they apply it to their life and their situation."
She recounted a moment of clarity during a hot yoga session that solidified her decision to release the single. "I was in yoga, hot yoga which I do all the time and I am so in love with, it's transformed me completely but I was in the Goddess pose right? I was dripping sweat with my neighbours and it's packed in there and I am thinking to myself, 'Do I put this song out? Do I not put this song out?' But then I had this a-ha moment."
Channeling Anger Constructively
Perry acknowledged the need to be "careful" with her feelings of anger but emphasized the positive aspect of channeling it into something constructive. "I have to be careful but it felt positive to put it in something constructive," she said.
New Love with Justin Trudeau
Since her split from Bloom, Perry has found love again with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 54. She has described him as "the love of my life" and credited him with transforming her. The new relationship appears to have provided a supportive backdrop for Perry's emotional exploration through music.
