Alex Reid, the former husband of Katie Price, is facing potential jail time after allegedly attempting to defraud a car insurance company out of £61,000. The 45-year-old martial artist is accused of providing a false statement regarding a car crash that occurred in 2018.
According to reports, Reid sought compensation from Axa after his Audi A6 collided with a Seat Leon on the A41. He claimed that a stranger on a motorbike, Darren Summers, had offered to be a witness after arriving at the scene before police. However, Axa later discovered that Reid and Summers were acquainted, with an article published a year before the crash describing how Reid had trained Summers for a fight.
The insurance firm reportedly stated that Reid admitted to lying when challenged and subsequently withdrew his compensation claim, which included £50,000 and £11,500 in special damages. Axa has now applied to the High Court for the case to be committed for a criminal contempt of court hearing.
Reid, who married Price in 2010 and divorced 11 months later, is now engaged to Nikki Manashe and expecting a child. He recently revealed he has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and has also expressed anti-mask views regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
