Katie Price has expressed shock that Gareth Gates agreed to speak about their past romance in her new documentary series. The former Pop Idol star, now 41, famously had a fling with the former glamour model in 2002 while she was pregnant with her son Harvey. Now, Gates is appearing in the four-part Sky documentary 'Katie Price: Nothing To Hide', which explores Price's life and relationships.
Gareth Gates Breaks Silence on Past Relationship
At the series launch, Price, 48, told the audience: "Imagine meeting someone 25 years ago and then they sort of ghost you. You don't know why and then you go forward 25 years and then you get the answers." She added: "Because he had thought I'd done something which I didn't do and now, he finds out, it really wasn't me. The shock on his face and the shock on mine – everyone was like, 'you and Gareth, that was the one that got away!'"
Gates, who rose to fame on Pop Idol at age 17, is believed to have lost his virginity to Price during their brief relationship. He rarely discusses the affair, but in the documentary he opens up about the experience. He said: "I haven't ever spoken about relationships. I believe that relationships are between two people and I couldn't believe that somebody else was selling stories about very, very intimate details. I was shocked." He added: "But I learned a lot about the industry, and trust. I would never have done that to her or anybody else. It was a real learning curve for me."
Gareth Gates' Previous Comments on the Fling
Speaking to former TOWIE star Jamie Laing on the Great Company podcast last month, Gates elaborated: "It was a shame because she's a really, really lovely girl but I couldn't believe that somebody could do that. I became very wary of trusting people after that because that was such a big thing, on a massive, massive scale. It was everywhere. It became the main thing that everyone wanted to know about. It was a shame I had to talk about it when I just wanted to be an artist. That was tough. It made me extremely wary."
Other Exes Appearing in the Documentary
Gates is not the only former partner of Price's to appear in the series. Alex Reid, who was married to Price for under a year after meeting just seven months before their wedding, also features. In a trailer for the documentary, Reid is seen delivering a stern message to Price, saying: "She emasculates me." Price has previously said she married Reid "too soon" and cited his cross-dressing as a major factor in their split.
'Katie Price: Nothing To Hide' airs on Sky and promises to delve into the highs and lows of Price's life, offering new insights from those closest to her.
