A royal expert has suggested that the Princess of Wales would “rise above the barbs” that Meghan Markle has directed at her. The relationship between Catherine and Meghan has been a frequent topic of discussion since the Sussexes stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Early Days and Growing Rift
During the early stages of Harry and Meghan’s courtship, Catherine and Meghan appeared to get along well. However, tensions emerged after the Sussexes married in 2018. The two couples have been estranged for six years, with the Sussex camp making several allegations against their in-laws. The Prince and Princess of Wales have not publicly responded to any of the claims.
Expert Analysis on Reconciliation
Following Prince Harry’s recent trip to the UK and a private meeting with King Charles, royal commentators have speculated about whether he might repair his relationship with Prince William. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told New magazine that the rift is “really between” William and Harry. She said: “I'm sure if William and Harry ever come to a point when they want to settle their differences, their wives will support them and follow their lead.”
Bond added: “I don't think the princess and duchess would ever be particularly close, but I think Catherine would simply rise above the barbs that Meghan has launched in her direction.” She described Catherine as “more of a natural peacemaker” but noted: “I would never say never about a reconciliation of sorts between William, Catherine, Harry and Meghan - however, there is certainly no sign of it on the horizon.”
The Bridesmaids Row Incident
The Duchess of Sussex previously claimed that Catherine made her cry during a dispute over bridesmaid dresses ahead of the Sussexes’ wedding on May 19, 2018. The disagreement involved silk dresses for the young bridesmaids, including Princess Charlotte. Initially, reports said Meghan made Kate cry, but Meghan alleged in her 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview that the opposite occurred and she was left upset.
