Collin Gosselin, one of the eight children featured in the reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8, has issued a warning to his estranged mother, Kate, ahead of the publication of his memoir. The book, titled In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is scheduled for an October release.
The 22-year-old shared a New York Post headline on his Instagram Story on Saturday, which read: “Kate Gosselin ‘spiraling’ ahead of estranged son Collin’s bombshell memoir: ‘She knows it’s about to hit the fan.’” The article cited a source who claimed Kate had “no idea this book was in the works.” Collin blurred his mother’s face using a filter and posted a follower’s comment: “What’s done in darkness will always come to light.”
Collin announced the memoir earlier this month, writing on Instagram: “For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story. Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw.” He added that he kept those experiences to himself because he was afraid, did not think anyone would believe him, or was not ready to share.
Collin has been estranged from Kate for about a decade. In 2016, Kate sent him to a behavioural health institution, citing “unpredictable and violent behaviour.” After two years, he left the facility and went to live with his father, Jon. In a 2024 interview with The Sun, Collin alleged that Kate began abusing him when he was eight or nine years old, claiming he was “isolated” and “constantly taking the fall for her emotions.” Kate’s attorney responded at the time, saying he did not believe she intended to harm Collin and that she acted to “protect herself and her family” from what was described as “troubled behaviour.”
