Kate Garraway, the 59-year-old presenter of Good Morning Britain, has had a varied romantic history. She began her journalism career with ITV News Central in the 1990s and later co-presented ITV News Meridian, before co-hosting GMTV from 2000 to 2010. Currently, she hosts Mid Mornings with Kate Garraway on Smooth Radio and serves as a regular newsreader and co-anchor on Good Morning Britain. Recently, during Susanna Reid's summer break, Garraway stepped in alongside Richard Madeley and Rob Rinder.
First Marriage to ITV Boss
Garraway married Ian Rumsey, her former boss at ITV Meridian, in 1998. The marriage ended after four years when she reportedly asked him to leave over allegations of an affair with a younger TV presenter—claims Rumsey has always denied. A friend of Garraway's told the Mirror: "She says he was cheating on her for some time and that's why she threw him out. She had her suspicions because he was going out and staying away a lot. He always denied anything was going on but Kate still had nagging doubts - call it women's intuition - that something was not right." Rumsey, however, blamed Garraway's long hours and early starts for the split. In a statement, Garraway said: "It's always terribly sad when a marriage comes to an end. I'm disappointed that what's a very private matter has been brought into the public domain. I was dismayed by reports in the papers because they are substantially inaccurate."
Heartbreaking Loss of Derek Draper
Garraway later found love with political aide Derek Draper. They married in 2005 and had two children: Darcey, 20, and Billy, 17. In 2024, Draper died due to complications from COVID-19. Announcing his death on Instagram, Garraway wrote: "Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed."
New Romance with Liam Halligan
Garraway is now dating economist Liam Halligan, a friend of Derek's. The relationship is three months old. Speaking to the Mirror, Garraway described it as "lovely" and added: "We basically haven't really had time for a proper date! I don't want to jinx it! I don't want to say anything because I will jinx it! I will jinx it. We all love an Irishman, don't we?" Halligan also wrote about their "definite spark" and similarities in his Spectator column.
