Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori made a rare public appearance together in Los Angeles on Thursday, stepping out for a low-key evening at the iconic Chateau Marmont. The sighting comes just days after the couple were seen in Seoul, South Korea, following the debut of Censori's provocative art exhibition.
A Casual Night Out in West Hollywood
The 48-year-old rapper, also known as Ye, opted for a casual look for the nighttime excursion, wearing a denim jacket over a black hoodie. His wife, the 30-year-old Australian architect, chose a monochromatic white ensemble. Censori was seen in a pair of white tights, a fitted white top, and closed-toe white heels, with her dark hair styled in an up-do.
The pair, who married in 2022, arrived at the historic hotel together and were later seen departing in the same vehicle after meeting up with a friend. This Los Angeles outing follows their recent trip to Seoul, where Censori had travelled for her first solo exhibition, titled BIO POP (THE ORIGIN).
Controversy Surrounds Censori's Artistic Debut
The architect's exhibition, which debuted last week, has since faced significant criticism online. The performance art piece featured women posing in provocative positions on furniture designed by Censori herself, exploring themes of domesticity. 'Domesticity is the mother of all revolutions, because all others trace back to it,' stated the official description.
However, the display was swiftly slammed on social media, with many accusing it of sexually exploiting women. Comments on Censori's Instagram ranged from 'How is this art?' to critiques about the objectification of women. Some defenders pointed out artistic similarities to works by Anna Uddenberg and Vanessa Beecroft.
In a recent interview with Dazed magazine, Censori, referring to herself in the third person, explained her approach: 'Bianca uses herself as a symbol. The work exposes what resonates in other people's psyches.' She also revealed why Seoul was chosen for the debut, stating, 'Korea understands ritual, performance and futurism as one system.'
Addressing the Backlash and Future Projects
This is not the first time Censori's public appearances have sparked debate. Her risqué fashion choices, including a nude outfit at the 2025 Grammy Awards with West, have consistently drawn attention and criticism.
In a conversation with Interview Magazine, a woman speaking on Censori's behalf addressed the backlash. She explained that while Censori is aware of the controversy her ensembles generate, seeking attention is not her 'goal.' The statement elaborated: 'A woman in the public eye is forced to watch versions of herself multiply without her consent... So she sculpts the versions they create, the phantom selves.'
The representative emphasised that Censori views social media neutrally and that her ultimate aim is self-expression. 'Backlash isn't a goal, but it is revealing. It shows where cultural sensitivities sit... Bianca's end goal is self-expression,' she told the magazine.
Despite the controversy, Censori is pushing forward with her artistic series. A follow-up installment, CONFESSIONAL (THE WITNESS), is scheduled for 2026, with the entire series planned to run through to its conclusion in 2032.
