The bullying doctor, who has tormented Jacob for months, has now retired from the hospital, but she is not leaving the village. Instead, she is set to cause even more chaos, targeting Vanessa Woodfield and igniting a sinister blackmail feud with Charity Dingle.
Jacob's Complaint Dashed
Jacob had finally had enough of Dr Todd after she repeatedly set him up as an obsessive, out-of-control medical student. His wife, Sarah Sugden, fully backed him and vowed to confront Todd, but Jacob begged her to leave matters alone. Meanwhile, Vanessa Woodfield had been deceived by Todd, believing her side of the story. Jacob managed to get a recording of Todd confessing her schemes, but she realised and deleted it. Undeterred, Jacob planned to complain to HR, but Todd jumped before she was pushed, announcing her retirement. This left Jacob hopeful that his misery would end, but her cruel move ensured he would not get the justice he deserved, as her reputation remained intact.
Dr Todd's Future in the Village
Despite retiring from the hospital, Dr Todd is staying in the village, and her torment of Jacob continues. No one else in the village, aside from Sarah and possibly Ross Barton, knows the full extent of her actions. Vanessa firmly believes Todd, and next week the pair kiss after agreeing to a date. Charity Dingle is shocked by this romance, but she has bigger problems: Todd had previously discovered Charity's baby lie—that the baby she carried for Sarah and Jacob was not their biological child but Charity and Ross's. Todd used this knowledge to blackmail Charity into getting Jacob to drop his complaint. Now that Jacob went back to HR, Todd has nothing to lose.
Blackmail Demands
After dropping hints in front of Jacob, Todd warns Charity that she has definitive proof about baby Leyla's genetic parents and demands £10,000 to keep the secret. Calling it compensation for the pension Jacob cost her, she pressures Charity to pay up. This confirms that Todd is going nowhere, and her threats are here to stay. She now has leverage over Jacob that could ruin his life, and the same goes for Charity. This storyline is set to run and run.
