Kaley Cuoco has opened up about experiencing the lowest point of her life in April 2022, just two months before finalising her divorce from second husband Karl Cook after three years of marriage. The 40-year-old Big Bang Theory alum was still residing in their marital home at the time, lying despondently on the floor.
Emotional Breakdown and Professional Obligations
"I was on the floor sobbing, thinking I ruined my whole life," Cuoco confessed during her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast this Monday. "That is the lowest point of my life I ever had. I couldn't get up. I was so depressed." Despite her emotional turmoil, the three-time Emmy nominee had to compose herself for the second season premiere of her HBO Max series The Flight Attendant in West Hollywood.
"My hair and makeup girls came over. They were literally doing my hair makeup on the floor," Cuoco recalled. "I said, 'I can't go.' I was so sad. The path for me was so complicated. And I just thought, 'Oh, man, this might've been it for me.'"
Moving Forward After Divorce
The Harley Quinn producer-star emphasised she has "not a single bad thing to say about" the 35-year-old equestrian, clarifying: "He's amazing." By September 2022, Cook had moved on with MiResource founder Mackenzie Drazan, whom he married in April 2024.
Remarkably, it took Cuoco only two weeks to meet her fiancé Tom Pelphrey after her manager encouraged her to attend the fourth season premiere of his Netflix show Ozark in Manhattan. "I get this feeling that I'm gonna spend my life with him," the California native said after scanning his Instagram account.
She immediately texted her best friend Sasha: "This is crazy, but I have to put it in writing. I think I'm gonna meet the man I'm gonna spend my life with." Cuoco added, "She goes, 'What do mean?' I'm like, 'Just keep this text.' And it was Tom. And I met him two weeks later."
New Family and Professional Ventures
On March 30, Cuoco and the 43-year-old Emmy nominee will celebrate the third birthday of their daughter Matilda Carmine Richie Pelphrey, whom they conceived "an hour later" after meeting. "I never thought I would have kids," The Yes Norman Productions founder noted. "I always loved them, but I felt like I missed the mark. But I met Tom. We both wanted it so bad. And then we got pregnant easily, and we're so excited."
Career Developments and Past Relationships
Cuoco currently executive produces and stars as American in Paris Alice Monroe in David Hilton and Preston Thompson's mystery drama Vanished, which airs Sundays on MGM+. The conspiracy miniseries currently holds a 42 percent critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on twelve reviews.
HBO Max has yet to renew Paul Dini and Bruce Timm's adult animated series Harley Quinn for a sixth season, leaving uncertainty about whether Cuoco will return as the titular bisexual DC Comics character. The eight-time Actor Award nominee previously dated her Big Bang Theory castmate Johnny Galecki, addiction specialist Josh Resnik, Superman alum Henry Cavill, and was married to tennis pro Ryan Sweeting before her marriage to Cook.
